We use a vertical pole for drying laundry. (This was the first time that I heard of this type of laundry pole.)

The Tokyo government will subsidize new products that cut down on CO2 emissions. (The government is hoping to get to zero, or at least near zero emissions in the near future. To subsidize means to help pay for something.)

The name “Robert” comes from German, meaning “bright fame.” (People named Robert are often described as being strong, intelligent, and determined.)

They are also typically seen as being kind and compassionate. (The symbol of Robert is the lion, which is a traditional symbol of strength and courage.)

She is the only member of her high school naginata group who still practices it. (She got her license to be a judge and recently was able to judge a match on her own.)

The word describe comes from Latin “de” meaning “down”, and “scribere” meaning “write”. (The word “scribe” is the root of many words such as subscribe, describe, prescribe.)
