They speak their minds. (They say what they think without worrying what other people think.)

I always had to wear hand-me-downs. (Me too – I had three older brothers.)

She wears a neck brace. (She has a weak neck.)

In the early 1980s, the term Black Friday referred to the busiest shopping day of the year. (

Many retail stores operate at a loss all year until Black Friday when they make a profit.)

You get a nice view from the upper deck on the train. (You will have to pay extra train fare to ride these two train cars from next April or so.)

She sold some handmade pouches. (“Pouch” sounds like “ouch.”)

We rode on a bus. (“Rode” is the past tense of “ride.)

India has a caste system. (The basic four-class system during the Edo Period were samurai, farmers and peasants, artisans and merchants. The “burakumin” were those outside of the basic caste system. I recommend reading the Japanese novel “The Bridge with no Water” and it was very interesting.)

It is an authentic Nepalese restaurant. (“Authentic” means “real.”)

Her water broke this morning. (She will deliver the baby soon.)
