If God wanted me to jump out of airplanes, he would have given me wings. (This basically means that I will never do it.)

I was perplexed about the changes made to my document. (She was confused why someone would change her wording.)

I watched the game live on TV, not in person. (In person means that you were physically at the event.)

I will have 30 radiation treatments. (He has cancer of a lymph gland.)

The hotel was not so good. (They were disappointed with the accommodations.)

It was all-you-can-drink for 2,500 yen. (She wasn’t feeling well so she could only have two drinks.)

He won two sumo matches but lost 11. (He is from Iwate Prefecture.)

The bleeding wouldn’t stop. (So, he decided to see a doctor.)

I got two stitches. (He had two sutures.)

I had to go to several hospitals or clinics last week. (We visit doctors more often as we get older.)

I have no willpower. (Willpower is the ability to control oneself, such as quitting bad habits or continuing good habits.)

It is usually better to say, “I don’t worry” rather than “I don’t care.” (“I don’t care” sounds very strong.)

My old shoes were waterproof. (He will use a waterproof spray on his new shoes.)

It was partly sunny. (It was partly cloudy.)

Walk-ins at the restaurant are usually ok in the afternoon. (Walk-in means to have no reservation.)
