San'in-San'yō, which means the northern, shady side of the mountains. (Hmmm, I wonder if it is cooler there.) I went to the city office to renew the disability ETC card. (If her mentally impaired daughter is with her, she can get a discount when using toll roads.) We used dried squid as bait. (They were trying to catch crawdads a.k.a. crawfish and crayfish.) Many elderly people are giving up their driver licenses. (Many senior drivers are having accidents.) I did laundry and hung out the futons. (She aired-out the futons.) Many friends texted me. (In Japan it is more common to say, “she Lined me.”) Prices of everything are rising. (This is partially due to the weak yen.) We laid down rope to mark the parking spaces. (They will start renting car parking spaces on a vacant lot.) We used “U-shaped” nail to hold the rope in place. (They forgot to bring a hammer.) We wanted to put the problem behind us. (They wanted to forget about it.) The school is co-ed. (There are both boy and girl students.) She told me that there would be another flea market in September. (The one in July was cancelled because of rain. Also, it is better to say, “she told me” instead of “she taught me.”) I wanted to see him in person. (She had seen him on TV but not in a live performance.) He “froze” in the middle of his performance. (He forgot his lines.) We lost contact with them. (It has been a long time since they last communicated with each other.) He is off on Sundays only. (He works six days a week.) There is much shade in that park. (There are many shady places where you can take a rest.) Our neighborhood had disaster preparedness training. (The people could experience strong winds, heavy rain, and mud slides by watching a movie in 3D.) MRE stands for “meals ready to eat.” (These meals are made for the military and packaged in retort pouches.) In 1968, Otsuka Foods Company of Japan became the first company to sell food in retort pouches. (The product was a Japanese curry called "Bon Curry".) I remember that a big typhoon hit us one year before that. (It happened one year before that time we were talking.) There was a big typhoon one year ago. (It happened one year before today.) I need to buy some groceries. (I must buy some food.) I put a piece of plywood on two sawhorses to make a stand. (Below is a photo of a pair of sawhorses.) |
