She crocheted a tablecloth. (Knitting needles are long and smooth, but a crochet needle has a hook.)

My eyesight was a little blurry.  (She couldn’t see clearly.)

I have slight cataracts. (Having cataracts is like looking through a cloudy lens.)

The sidewalks were icy. (The walkway was slippery.)

The train was delayed for three hours because of an accident. (They weren’t told the cause of the delay, but I can make a good guess.)

We couldn’t leave the train during the delay. (The train was not at the station, so they couldn’t get off.)

The best place to stargaze in Tokyo is Kozushima. (Kozushima is designated as an International Dark Sky Park.)

I planned the whole trip myself. (She made hotel reservations etc. without the help of a travel agency.) 

She said that the battery might die soon. (The watch had been sitting on a shelf for a long time.)

I was under general anesthesia during the surgery. (She slept through the surgery.)

The skin will completely heal after a few months. (It will be like new again.)

I was bored. ("Bored" describes a person's feeling of being uninterested or tired. Conversely, "boring" describes the person, thing, or situation that causes that feeling.)

They played the boccia (pronounced “bocha”) game. (This game can be played by people of all ages, even people who are handicapped.)

In 490 BC a soldier ran from Marathon to Athens to announce a battle victory. (In the 1896 Olympics the first 40 km footrace was run.)

A marathon is 42.195 km because the 1908 London Olympics wanted the finish line to be in front of the royal box. (The distance was lengthened so the royal family could see the end of the race.)

I was busier than usual. (I was unusually busy.)

My leg fell asleep. (He was sitting cross-legged for a long time.)

The snow was quickly accumulating. (It was getting deeper.)
