My Notes September 2024 Week 4 (Sep 24 - 28)

Idioms of the week

To die for

Get outta here

Students in Ibaraki broke the record for the largest game of Daruma-san ga koronda.

This game is similar to the American game “red light – green light.”

More than 2,000 school children from the first grade through the ninth grade participated.

The previous record was 740 children.

One person is "it" and to start the game, that person says, "Daruma-san ga koronda."

For the other players, the object of the game is to get close to whoever is "it" without him seeing them move.

The fourth Friday in September is National Bakery Day.

Bread, and salt, were used as currency in Ancient Egypt.

The first baker’s association was established in Rome in 168 BC.

A “baker’s dozen” started in medieval England to keep the baker from going to jail.

It is common in France to buy freshly baked baguettes daily in the early morning.

“To die for” means “to want or like very much.”

His chocolate cake is to die for.

“Get outta here!” means “surprise or disbelief.”

A: I just won the million-dollar lottery! B: Get outta here! No way!
