My Notes October 2024 Week 1 (Oct 1 - 5)

Idioms of the week

Bite off more than you can chew

Black gold

Joshua Fyksen broke the record for most Michelin-starred restaurants visited in 24 hours.

He visited, and ate at least one menu item, in 22 fine-dining restaurants in New York City.

In 1889, the Michelin brothers made a guide with a map of restaurants, gas stations, etc. in France.

They hoped that the guide would encourage people to drive more.

Their original ratings were: one star was a “very good restaurant”, two stars was “excellent cooking worth a detour”, and three stars were “exceptional cuisine worth a special journey.”

The first Friday in October is Body Language Day.

Body language is a type of communication in which physical actions express feelings.

Facial expressions can show that you are happy, sad, surprised, etc.

You shrug your shoulders by raising and lowering them and it means you aren’t interested, don’t know, or don’t care about something.

Rolling your eyes (moving them upwards) shows that you are annoyed or bored.

(Bonus: have everyone show an example of body language and explain it.)

“Bite off more than you can chew” means “you try to do something that is too difficult for you.”

I volunteered for several projects, but I bit off more than I could chew and couldn’t finish them.

“Black gold” means “the black color and high value of oil.”

While digging a water well, they found black gold.
