Females patrol an area of 100,000 square kilometers. The mother bears need a large area to protect their young from other bears and to find food. Mother bears’ milk is about fifty percent fat. The longest distance swam by a polar bear is 685 km over a period of nine days straight. National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12. May 6 is also National Nurse Day and May 12 is the birth date of Florence Nightingale. In 1854, Florence and 38 volunteer nurses that she trained, and 15 Catholic nuns went to a hospital in the Crimean War. She lowered the death rate of wounded soldiers from 42 percent to 2 percent. She opened the first nursing school after the war. “X marks the spot” means “the location of a certain point.” “You bet (your boots / your life)” means “of course.” You bet your life I am angry with him. |
