Ronin the rat claims the title of most landmines detected by a rat.

Between August 2021 and February 2025, he alone uncovered 109 landmines.

In 1998, the Belgian NPO/NGO APOPO started training rats to detect landmines.

All the rats are raised at their training center in Tanzania.

So far, about 170,000 landmines and other explosives have been found in regions of Africa, Europe and south-east Asia.

These rats have also been trained to detect tuberculosis (TB). (結核 Kekkaku)

May 16 is Endangered Species Day.

Species of animals or plants that are seriously at risk of extinction are classified as endangered.

Some famous endangered species in Japan include the Iriomote cat, red-crowned crane, Ryukyu black-breasted leaf turtle, and Japanese eel. 

The Japanese crested ibis was once believed to be extinct, but it is not.

 The last wild egret died in Japan in 2003, but the species was reintroduced from captive breeding programs in 2008 and now has a thriving population. 

Very strict laws were made in 1972 to protect the American Bald Eagle and now their population in greatly increasing.

“Fun and games” means “goofing off.”
