My Notes May 2024 Week 2

67-year-old Fatou is the world’s oldest living gorilla in captivity.

She was found in western Africa in 1959 by a sailor.

He brought her to France and used her as payment for his tab at a local tavern.

She was soon sold to a zoo in Berlin where she lives today.

Fatou is a western lowland gorilla, a species with an average lifespan of 40-50 years in captivity.

For her birthday, Fatou got a special basket of fruit and vegetables including lettuce, berries, watermelon and edible flowers.

May 24 is International Nurses Day.

Christian, Islamic, and Buddhist nuns and monks were the first nursing care givers.

Florence Nightingale set up one of the first schools of nursing around 1854.

Iyo Araki (1877-1969) helped to establish modern nursing in Japan.

After becoming a nurse in Japan, she studied at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

 “No-brainer” means “an easy decision.”

Choosing chocolate ice cream over vanilla is a no-brainer.

“Best of both worlds” means “to get the best of two situations.”

This dessert is the best of both worlds; it is healthy and tastes great too.
