My Notes June 2025 Week 4

In September 2024 Tomiko Itooka was declared the oldest living person at the age of 116.

She was born on 23 May 1908 in Osaka.

She married at 20 and had four children and now numerous grand and great grandchildren.

In her eighties, Tomiko completed the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage to 33 Buddhist temples, twice.

She lived with her two daughters until she was 110 and then moved into a nursing home.

She sadly passed away on December 29, 2024.

In the above photo on the left she was 94 and on the right, 113.

June 27 is Helen Keller Day.

She came into this world in 1880.

When she was nineteen months old, she became sick and lost her eyesight and hearing.

When her family did not understand her home signs, she had temper tantrums.

When Helen was in Japan, she met Hachiko and was the first person to bring an Akita to the US.

America.

Helen passed away on June 1, 1968, at the age of 87.

“To get rid of” means “to eliminate or to throw away.”

I have to do spring cleaning and get rid of many things.

“To get something off one's chest” means “to say something that has been bothering you.”

I can’t keep this secret anymore; I need to tell someone and get it off my chest.
