My Notes August 2024 Week 4

The Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota, is the World's First Corn Palace.

The original Corn Palace was built in 1892, and the building used today was built in 1921.

The seven murals are made with 12 different colors and shades of corn.

A new theme is chosen every year, and the old murals are replaced in August and September.

About 375,000 ears of corn are used to make the murals.

August 27 is World Rock Paper Scissors Day.

This game dates back to the Han dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE) in China.

The game came to Japan, and it was changed to sansukumi-ken.

In mushi-ken the "frog" triumphs over the "slug" the slug prevails over the "snake" and the snake triumphs over the "frog.”

In the US, we play rock, paper, scissors, but flipping coins or drawing straws is more common.

“Tighten one’s belt” means “to spend money carefully.”

We are living on a fixed income and prices are skyrocketing so we must tighten our belts.

“Bend over backwards” means “to try very hard to please somebody.”

Many people bent over backwards to make sure Max and his friends had a great time.
