Memoirs Part 10

We had only four or five rocket attacks during my year at Phu Cat. Most of the time we had a couple of minutes to get into a bunker outside the barracks. After about 15 or 20 minutes in the bunker, we were allowed to go back into our rooms. We often had water rationing and some guys were in the shower when the rocket attack sirens went off. There was no time to rinse off, so you just wrapped a towel around your body and ran to the bunker. Unfortunately, the water was turned off by the time we got the all clear, so we had to go to bed all soapy and dusty from the bunker’s dirt floor and wait for the water to come back on in a few hours. One time when the sirens went off,  I decided to stay in my room. I lied on the floor under the bed and after about a minute, I slowly got up to look out my screen window and just then the rocket flew over my barracks. I hit the floor pretty hard. The rocket landed about 100 meters past our barracks in an open field.
