Lessons July 2026 Week 3

The orca, a.k.a. “killer whale” is the world’s largest dolphin.

The average male orca is about eight meters long and females about 7 meters.

Adult males weigh about six tons, and their dorsal fin is about 1.8 meters tall.

Orca live in pods with a female usually being the leader and her offspring stay with the pod.

Killer whales can “see” by using clicking sounds like bats.

Orca need to eat about 250 kg daily.

July 11 is National Rainier Cherry Day.

Rainier cherries were developed in 1952 at Washington State University.

The cherry was named after Mount Rainier.

It is a cross between the Bing and Van type cherries.

Rainiers are a premium type of cherry, but are sensitive to temperature, wind, and rain.

About 1/3 of a Rainier cherry orchard crops are eaten by birds.

“Slip up” means “make a small mistake.”

Sometimes I slip up when typing my lessons.

“Take a breather” means “to rest.”

We’ve been hiking for two hours, let’s take a breather.

You should inhale and exhale through your nose.
