She took both a written and practical test. (Written is self-explanatory, the practical test is actually performing something.)

Her shirt was on backward. (The design on the front was now on the back.)

It was inside out. (The inside of the shirt was now on the outside of the shirt.)

The grapes in one bunch ripen at different times. (You must pick the ripened grapes each day as they get ripe.)

These are freshly picked grapes. (They were picked that morning.)

He was hospitalized for being dehydrated. (This was a common problem this summer because it was so hot.)

She had kidney stones. (It was very painful for several days before the stones passed through the kidney.)

Freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior are the names for the first, second, third and fourth years of high school and college. (There are different systems for American schools. Elementary grades 1 – 6, junior high school grades 7 – 9 and high school grades 10 – 12. Or elementary grades 1 – 5, middle school grades 6 – 8 and high school grades 9 – 12. My school was elementary school grades 1 – 8 and high school 9 – 12.)

We had a disaster preparedness training. (We can’t prevent disasters, but we can prepare for them.)

The earliest known use of the word hangry was in 1992. (This means that you are angry because you are hungry.)

Other names for astigmatism are nearsightedness or myopia. (Things up close are clear but things far away are blurry.)
