(This is sometimes called a dog park and is a fenced area where dogs can run without being on a leash.) We picked peaches in Yamanashi and visited a vineyard. (The peaches were all-you-can-eat for 30 minutes.) There was a long line of people waiting to get into the restaurant. (It is a very popular restaurant.) Hōtō is a popular dish from Yamanashi made with thick, flat udon-like noodles. (These noodles are similar to dumplings.) I’m excited about visiting Australia. (Do not say, “I am exciting about…) "Fish" is the more common plural, especially when referring to a group of the same species. "Fishes" is often used when referring to multiple species of fish. (You can say that the market sells many fishes, but “they sell many types of fish” sounds more natural.) All the meat was sold out except the pork loin roast. (She cut the loin into pork steaks.) I’m already looking forward to the next event. (She can’t wait until the next dance party.) They went to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. (A.k.a. “kura-kura” sushi.) The five-year-old’s message was just word salad. (Nobody could understand the meaning of the message.) He texted me. (“Text message” is generic for any app, but if you use the Line app, you can say “he Lined me.”) He asked me to make a list of things for him to do around the house. (Her son helped her do yardwork and house cleaning.) Do you believe in horoscopes? (If it says that I will be lucky, I will believe it.) The health problem might be genetic. (The problem is in the DNA.) I had tinnitus. (Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the ears or head when there is no external source for that sound.) We couldn’t eat after 1 a.m. (We had to fast for 12 hours.) You can turn on or turn off your mobile data. (Turning it off will save you data usage and battery life.) “To throw a sprat to catch a whale" means to use a something small to gain something larger. (A sprat is a small fish similar to a sardine.) Cicadas produce a loud buzzing or clicking sound. (We also call that noise “chirping.”) The heat was very intense/extreme. (It was very, very hot.) He is poor at handwriting. (His writing is illegible.) They showed a video of behind the scenes for making the movie. (In the animated movie, the background looked very large, but it was filmed using a miniature stage.) |
