I’m putting on weight. (I’m gaining weight. Sayin, “I’m getting fat is too strong.)

A neighbor complained about the noise from the temple bell. (The temple cancelled the midnight ceremony of ringing the temple bell on New Year eve.)

Three of the dog’s teeth were loose. (She took the dog to a special animal dentist.)

The dentist saved the teeth. (The dog is healing but will be ok soon.)

I didn’t look at my schedule closely. (I made a scheduling mistake.)

A tutor is a person who teaches something, usually one on one. (A tutorial is teaching material, usually in writing or on video.)

There is a problem with the car battery, so it is back to the drawing board. (They will have to make changes to the car’s design to fix the problem.)

He grows vegetables in a city sponsored garden. (Don’t say, “He makes vegetables.”)

Locally grown veggies are best. (They may not look nice, but they are fresh and tasty.)

Japan is very tolerant about different religions. (The people accept other religions.)

Do you have any superstitions? (Not really.)

Was the room worth the price increase. (They were moved to a room with a nice view, but it wasn’t worth the extra cost.)

We will have a bean-throwing ceremony tonight. (Evil out and good luck in.)

She joined our group. (Don’t say, “entered the group.”)

She lived next door to her daughter. (Her daughter could bring her soup and it would still be hot.)
