Las Vegas often gets flash floods. (These floods happen suddenly and quickly.)

Tokyo still gives rebates up to 80,000 for energy efficient appliances. (It depends on what type of appliance and its age.)

When I was young, I wore Ivy League style clothing. (This type of clothing resembled clothes that Ivy League students wore in the 50s and 60s.)  

Dissolving is mixing two substances to form a solution. (Melting is a single substance that changes from solid to liquid due to heat.)

Thawing is something that changes from frozen to unfrozen. (Ice melts and meat thaws.)

She continued to fight for his freedom. (This was about a movie drama where the husband was arrested but finally died while in custody.)

The new covid virus is called Stratus. (I believe that this is a combination of two previous variants of the virus.)

They sent me a questionnaire. (She received a document asking her many questions.)

Frogs are the most common amphibian. (They live in both water and on land.)

I had a complete physical examination. (The tests were all good, but she is slightly shorter than in her previous exam.)

My grandson wanted to eat a Lucky Pierrot hamburger. (This is a very popular chain restaurant in Hakodate.)

My kitchen has a bay window. (Bay windows extend outward from the building.)

The windowsill is wide. (This is also called a window ledge and is similar to a narrow shelf.)

A broken sewer pipe caused the sinkhole. (A big hole was made in the street, and a vehicle fell into it.)

The country’s infrastructure is deteriorating. (Infrastructure includes roads, bridges, railways, airports, internet, phone lines, power lines, pipelines, water supply, sewage systems etc.) 

There will be a lecture on how to prevent being scammed. (To scam someone means to cheat them out of their money.)
