My Notes March 2025 Week 2

Xie Qiuping (shie kayaping) holds the Guinness World Record for the longest hair.

In 2004, it measured 5.627 meters.

The Red Yao women of Huangluo village are known for their long hair, which can reach lengths of up to 200 cm.

They only cut their hair once in their lives, at age 18, to show that they reached adulthood.

Unmarried women cover their hair with a black scarf, while married women with children wear a bun at the front.

The women use fermented rice water and wooden combs to care for their hair.

 March 10 is Napping Day.

Daylight saving time, a.k.a. summertime, starts at 2 a.m. on March 9, 2025.

The sun will rise and set one hour later than during standard time.

Spring forward, fall back.

22 states want permanent daylight-saving time.

States can choose to use standard time all year, but the national law must be changed for permanent daylight savings time.

“Close, but no cigar” means “you were almost successful.”

They lost the game by one point, close but no cigar.

“To fill someone's shoes” means “to replace someone.”

Cathy retired after working there for 30 years and it will be hard to fill her shoes.
