The nonagenarian is the mayor, town clerk, town treasurer, town secretary, tavern keeper and chief librarian. She has been running the tavern alone since her husband passed away in 2004. She works 12 hours a day, six days a week at the tavern, making coffee, drinks, and food for local farmers, friends, and curious passersby. She established the town’s only library in 2005 using the 5,000 books left behind by her late husband who was an avid reader. July 24 is National Drive Thru Day. The first drive-in restaurant was established in 1921 with carhops delivering food to customers. The first drive-through restaurant was opened in 1947 and in 1948 they used two-way speakers. Now pharmacies, banks, post offices, liquor stores, grocery stores, etc. have drive-throughs. In Las Vegas, you can get married at a wedding chapel drive-thru. “To give someone a piece of one's mind” means “to let someone know how one really feels.” After that driver took my parking spot, I really gave him a piece of my mind. Everyone was glued to their seats while watching the live broadcast of the tsunami. |
