February 4 – 11, 2025, is the Sapporo Snow Festival.

The Snow Festival began as a one-day event in 1950 when six local high school students built six snow statues in Odori Park.

In 1955 the Japan Self-Defense Forces built the first massive snow sculptures.

The largest ever sculpture was the 25-meter-high ‘Gulliver, Welcome to Sapporo’ in 1972.

This sculpture was created with the equivalent of 1,300 5,000-kg truckloads of snow.

“To enter one's mind” means “to start thinking about something.”
