Lessons October 2023 Week 3

Mark Evans (UK), 49, reclaimed the record for the most tattoos of the same name on the body.

In 2017 he had his daughter’s name, “Lucy”, tattooed on his back 267 times.

Someone broke that record in 2020 with 300 names.

Recently, Mark had “Lucy” tattooed 400 times, 200 on each leg, for a total of 667 times.

Mark set this record to raise funds for the hospital which took care of Lucy for a few months.

October 10 is National Metric Day.

The metric system was made in France in the 1790s.

The meter was originally defined to be one ten-millionth of the distance between the North Pole and the Equator.

The British wouldn’t accept France’s metric system and used the British Imperial measurements.

Only three countries, the U.S., Liberia and Myanmar, still use the imperial system.

In the US, Coke and wine are sold in liters, medicine in milligrams, food nutrition labels are metric.

Foot races are measured in meters.

“Buy it” means “to believe something.”

He said that he won the tournament, but I don't buy it.

“Set sights on” means “to want something or to make a goal.”

I set my sights on golfing once a month from next year.
