Lessons March 2024 Week 1

Concepción "Connie" Picciotto maintained the longest peace vigil by an individual.

She protested anti-nuclear weapons for 34 years 177 days.

She protested from 1 August 1981 until her death at the age of 80, on 25 January 2016.

She survived on donations from passersby, charities, and local businesses.

Although she’s no longer alive, the White House Peace Vigil is still going strong.

February 29, the last Thursday in February, is National Chili Day.

Chili was first made by the Aztecs in the early 1500s.

In the mid-1800s, the Spanish called it “chili con carne” which means “meat with chili peppers.”

The first Spanish chili was dried beef boiled with chili peppers.

As the years went by, beans, tomatoes, and onions were added.

More than 150 chili cook-offs are held in the US every year.

“Spill the beans” means “to tell a secret.”

Someone spilled the beans and told him about his surprise birthday party.

“Get off someone’s back” means “to stop nagging.”

I told him to get off my back about losing weight.
