Lessons December 2023 Week 4

Alan Fisher has broken two cooking-related Guinness World Records.

First up, he's claimed the longest cooking marathon in a time of 119 hours 57 minutes.

Alan then claimed the longest baking marathon with a time of 47 hours 21 minutes.

Alan set the two records back-to-back with just one day of rest in between.

Alan baked 357 kg of bread and 590 kg of dishes including 3,360 portions from 32 recipes.

His first restaurant in Japan was in central Tokyo but after COVID, he moved to Matsue in Shimane Prefecture.

The first Saturday in December is World Pear Day.

About 3,000 varieties of pears are grown worldwide, which vary in both shape and taste.

The word “pear” comes from the Latin word “pira” meaning “fruit”.

Humans have been eating pears since prehistoric times.

Asian pears, a.k.a. “nashi” or Japanese pears, have an apple shape.

“Able to do something blindfolded” means “can do something easily.”

You can pass the driver’s test blindfolded.

“Above par” means "better than average or normal.”

His work is above par.
