Lessons April 2024 Week 2

Donna Urquhart completed the longest polar ultramarathon by a woman.

She ran a total of 1,402.21 km over 28 days in the snow.

Donna trained in a wind tunnel and a giant freezer.

She ran on a treadmill at -10 degrees for three to four hours at a time.

Her third day running was the most difficult both mentally and physically.

She wants to inspire young girls to never give up on their dreams.

April 1 is April Fools Day.

One of the greatest pranks was the fake eruption of the Mount Edgecumbe volcano in Alaska.

A local logger named Oliver ‘Porky’ Bickar spent years preparing for the hoax.

He collected 70 used car tires and waited for a sunny April 1.

He used a helicopter to drop the tires in the mountain’s crater.

After burning the tires, the townspeople thought the volcano was erupting.

He told the police and fire department about the hoax, but he didn’t tell the Coast Guard.

When the Coast Guard flew over the mountain, they saw “April Fool” spray painted in the snow.

“On the fence” means “to be undecided about something.”

I’m still on the fence about buying a new car.

“Sit tight” means “to wait for something.”

The kids wanted to go to the beach, but I told them to sit tight while I prepared a picnic lunch.
